I've only seen a few of these floating around, and just one other one signed. I'm pretty sure there isn't one that can compare to this. Completely signed by Cliff Burton, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett. This is an original poster from their January 15, 1984 show at a club called the Union Jack located in South River, N.J. From what I have been told, a number of these posters (maybe 100 or so) were signed at an area record store either before or following the show. I would love to know more about the history of this poster. It's the nicest you will see, signed and inscribed (what's new?) by the greatest band ever.
Metallica Hell on Earth Tour 1984 (Cancelled)
Using the cover art from their first album Kill 'Em All along with a mean ass devil looking demon Metallica was fully prepared to hit the road. Along with Anthrax, The Rods and Exciter the four horsemen were ready to take their act on the road. One problem. Ticket sales were horrible and the tour is cancelled.
"About two weeks before the start of the tour we noticed to our dismay that our best-selling show was the Newcastle Mayfair where we'd sold a massive 14 tickets. It was at that moment that we thought the tour might not be the success we wanted it to be, so we cancelled it immediately."
— Gem Howard, tour manager, Metallica: A Visual Documentary
Both of these posters have been signed by the boys. All vintage, all perfect signatures.
Metallica 9/10/86 - 1/2/87 "Damage Inc Tour Europe"
With the release of Master of Puppets in the rear-view mirror (including their first gold record and a 72-week run on the album charts) the boys embarked on the European portion of the Damage Inc. tour. Cliff would only play a handful of shows on this portion of the tour (13 shows) before meeting his end. Traveling from Stockholm to Copenhagen the band draws cards to figure out who will sleep in which bunk. Cliff draws the ace of spades and chooses to sleep in Kirk's bunk. Some time around dawn, the bus driver looses control of the bus, which skids out of control and rolls over several times. James, Kirk and Lars survive with no serious injuries, but Cliff Burton is pinned under the bus and dies. I'm not sure of the exact date this poster was signed, but Cliff had only about three weeks to sign it. A rare piece of Metallica history and one of the more unique pieces in my collection.
Metallica 9/10/86 - 1/2/87 "Damage Inc Tour Europe"
Another piece from Cliff's last tour is this tour poster, made by their European record producer Music for Nations. While it's very similar to the regular tour poster this was likely a promo poster given out at a show and either signed backstage by the band or a record store. Great period signatures from the boys and another extremely rare signed poster, autographed by Cliff during his final days.
Metallica 11/15/88 - 1/8/90 "Damaged Justice World Tour"
In a two and a half week span in January of 1989, Metallica had a gig in the state of Texas 14 out of 17 days. In between they would venture out of the state for a gig or two, this is one of them. On January 28, 1989 they played in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Expo Square Pavilion. Signed by the second era band each has signed perfectly in black Sharpie marker.
Metallica 10/22/92 - 12/18/92 "Wherever We May Roam Europe"
With three more dates left before ending their second leg (European) of the Wherever We May Roam tour the boys played on December 12, 1992 in Gothenburg, Sweden at the Scandinavium. The presented poster features each of the second era band with silver signatures on a very cool looking tour poster. Very rare, likely signed before or after the show on that day in December.
